Robin van Persie would be incredible City signing, Says Kompany
Vincent Kompany has backed Manchester City’s pursuit of Arsenal’s Robin van Persie, by hailing the striker as ‘incredible’.
City manager Roberto Mancini is currently weighing up a second bid for Dutch forward, who also has interest from rivals Manchester United and Juventus, after all three club’s had £12 million bids rejected a fortnight ago.
Mancini is believed to be unwilling to stretch to Arsenal’s £25 million asking price for their skipper, who only has 12 months left on his current deal.
However, City captain Kompany believes it is a price worth paying, and has given his backing to the pursuit of van Persie, as the club look to retain the Premier League trophy next season.
‘He is a player who has improved so much. I started playing against him five or six years ago, but his performances last season were unbelievable,’ explained Kompany.
‘A player like this would be an incredible addition to any team that he joined. His movement is near perfection and the stats show his finishing. He has led by example at Arsenal, so yes, he is a great player.’
Yet Kompany, who signed a new six-year-deal at City last week, says the club will continue going forward, regardless of new additions.
‘I think we will improve anyway, whether we need new players is up to the manager. I only know that, even if we don’t, we will improve naturally anyway.’
City hope to clear space for Van Persie by offloading Emmanuel Adebayor and Edin Dzeko in the next few weeks.
