michael-sata-zambia-chopperThe Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says it is important for the President’s handlers to explain why he has been missing from the public.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Chembe said it was not healthy that the Head of State had not been seen in public for three months.

Chembe said that there were lapses in the State House communication machinery hence the high levels of speculation.

“In a Republic such as Zambia which has a figurehead everyone wants to know where their President is and if at all there is any reason why our President is not being seen. Our appeal to the government is that there is need to clearly explain this to the public so that whatever anxieties some citizens may be having over the love of their president can be settled,” he said.

“Everybody wants to know that their president is well and executing his duties. This can only happen if there is clear communication from the government.”
