Sierra Leone President Koroma Says his Vice is a Patriot
By Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, news.sl/
His Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who doubles as the Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) has on Sunday 30th September 2012, named his current Vice-President Alhaji Sam-Sumana as his running-mate once again for upcoming 2012 Presidential elections; whilst describing the VP as a patriotic Sierra Leonean.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with this writer yesterday evening up at State Lodge, President Koroma who was relaxed and smiling as he exclusively confirmed the news to this newspaper, carefully laid out all the reasons why he decided to run again with his humble, loyal Vice-President despite media pundits suggesting otherwise. The first point he proffered was Patriotism.
“Sam is a patriot who loves Sierra Leone,” President Koroma said of his Vice-President.
The President cited the example of Sam-Sumana leaving his wife and children in America at a time the Sierra Leone civil war was barely finished, only to come back to a still-dangerous Sierra Leone and join in rebuilding the country especially his native Kono District.
As a former businessman himself, the President spoke of how any business venture has not only financial risks (putting your money into a business) but other risks such as the personal risk his Vice-President had taken to leave America and come home to do business in a war-torn and at the time, still-dangerous country; because of his love for Sierra Leone.
It can be recalled that when VP Sam-Sumana returned home to run a tri-partite business venture with two others, he not only created numerous employment for Sierra Leoneans but he also helped the United Nations Mission stationed in the country, in infrastructural developments such as the roads within and surrounding Kono.
