Singapore appoints new ambassador to Ethiopia & African Union

SINGAPORE: The government has appointed Mr Vanu Gopala Menon as Singapore’s first Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union.

He will reside in Singapore and continue to be Deputy Secretary (Southeast Asia and International Organisations) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore (MFA).

Mr Menon joined the Foreign Service in June 1985.

He was Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in New York from September 2004 to August 2011, as well as High Commissioner to Canada from November 2004 to May 2008.

Between December 2001 and August 2004, he was Permanent Representative to the UN and the World Trade Organization in Geneva, as well as Ambassador to Turkey during the same period.

Mr Menon was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2001, the Long Service Medal in 2008 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2009.
