The president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E Abdel Fattah Al Sisi has written to his Gambian counterpart, H.E Sheikh Prof. Alh. Dr. Yahya Jammeh, applauding his support to the ‘roadmap programme’ of his country during a transition presided over by Interim President Adly Mansour.

In his letter addressed to President Jammeh recently, Sisi also expressed his resolve to consolidate relations between Banjul and Cairo.

He wrote: “It was a real pleasure to meet with Your Excellency on the margin of the last African Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, and I would like to express my aspiration that this meeting will be a starting point for a more cooperative relationship between our two countries, in order to achieve the mutual interest, development, prosperity for our brotherly peoples, as I have faith in our countries’ abilities to enhance different fields of cooperation between each others.

I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the support you have shown to the Egyptian People and their road map which had witnessed the achievement of the first two fulfillments; the constitution and the presidential elections, and which is to be completed in the near future by proceeding with the parliamentary election. Such support highly embodies the historical relations between our brotherly countries and the mutual interest of our peoples.

Therefore, and with reference to what we have discussed during our meeting on the margin of the last African Summit, I would like to express my concern for promoting and enhancing the cooperation between the two countries, presenting all the backing and support to respond to all your country’s needs in this matter, in order to enhance our bilateral relations in all fields by which we can achieve our peoples’ hopes and aspirations. I would also like to stress on the importance of the coordination and consultations between our both countries concerning counter-terrorism and extremism issues.

I’m looking forward to enhancing the cooperation between us, and I am sure the above-mentioned subjects will meet your deep concerns. I seize this opportunity to express my aspiration to welcome you in your second country, as soon as it suits you. Wishing Gambia and its brotherly people all the progress and prosperity.
