129 Views child has died and two others were seriously injured after an old landmine exploded as they were playing football in the town of Balanbale on Monday morning, Somali Football Federation revealed here in a press statement of which a copy was sent to the world football.

Somali Football Federation is expressing ‘shock’ over the death and wounds of Somali children between 7-10 years of age—It was really very touching experience to learn about such sad news” Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab said in a press statement on Monday.

The statement noted that a child died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the city of Galkayo for treatment.

The blast occurred in the early hours of the day, as the children were playing football in an open ground in the town of Balanbale near the border between Somalia and Ethiopia.

“On behalf of the entire Somali football family members, I would like to send our heart-felt condolence to the family and relatives of the child who was killed in the blast and I wish sudden recovery for the two others wounded” Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab said in a press statement.

It was on 13th of January 2010 when 9 young footballers were killed and 12 others were wounded after two mortars rounded on a small football field in Mogadishu where the young boys were playing football.
