Team Nigeria depart for Botswana

Nigeria’s national rugby team, the Black Stallions, departed the shores of the country on Thursday night for Gaborone, Botswana for the Africa Rugby Nations Cup 1C championship.

The tour party boarded SA Airways flight by 10:25pm with 22 players and two officials who were accompanied by the Technical Director/Vice President and the President of Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF).

The Black Stallions which consist of predominantly home-based players will be promoted to a higher Division CUP 1B if they emerge winners of the tournament, but will have to scale through the hurdles of Botswana, Impala Rustenburg, Zambia, Mauritius and Swaziland in Garborone before achieving such aim.

Nigeria will begin her campaign in the tournament against Zambia on Sunday 15th June, play Swaziland on the 18th, before facing Impala Rustenburg on Saturday 21th June.

At the completion of all the matches, the teams are ranked one through six based on their cumulative match points, and identified respectively as winner, runner-up, third, fourth, five and six.
