The African Union strongly condemns the attack against an UNAMID patrol in South Darfur
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, January 23, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union(AU), Dr. Jean Ping, condemns in the strongest terms the unprovoked attack against an UNAMID patrol on 21 January 2012 near Saleh, in Sector South, Darfur, which led to the death of one Nigerian peacekeeper, while several others were injuried.
The Chairperson of the Commission expresses his condolences to the Government of
Nigeria and to the bereaved familly. He wishes early recovery to the injured.
The Chairperson of the Commissionurges the Government of Sudan to do everything
possible to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face the force of law.
The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates the AU’s determination, working closely
with the United Nations, to do whatever it can to continue supporting the peace efforts
in Darfur.
