The Emergence of President Jonathan: A Monumental tragedy to Nigeria

By Barr. Sani Ibrahim
Since the demise of president Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Nigeria as a country began to witness a retrogressive devlopment in terms of leadership, intellectual man power and economic development. After almost three years of being the president of Nigeria from the demise of president Yar’adua to his election as the president, president

Goodluck Jonathan administration has been bedevilled with a lot of controversies and distractions of all kind, from petroleum subsidy scam to pension fraud to Boko Haram saga and the rest. The country is witnessing more of econmic misery rather than witnessing human, capital and ecenomic development, corruption and massive looting has become the order of the day. I seek to borrow the words of General Sani Abacha who once said that: “Nigeria is witnessing the era of Economic Squandermania”, this indeed is the era.

As the year 2012 winds up, many countries in the world are reviewing their achievement and showcasing new technological advancement by displaying to the world how far they have gone and how much they as people have achieved in the 21st century world. A lot of countries are becoming potential and prospective world power by a show of ability and technological advancement, while some countries are reasoning in tandem with the reality, Nigeria as a country is reasoning retrogressively. Just before the christmas a potential world power(china) unveiled to the world the world fastest train ever built which can travel at a speed of 300 MPH cutting a journey of 22 hours to barely 8 hours, this is in itself an absolute display of achievement and advancement in technology.

Nigeria is not left out in this realm of display of advancement and technological achievement, just that ours is more of showcasing incompetence and negative technological development.

Our president used the christmas day celebration in his usual church sermon which he has now reverted to Aso Rock to addresing Nigerians to inform the whole world that he is the SLOWEST president in decision making, that he is slow in decision making because Government doesnt want to make mistakes, so Government is taking it time to make decision for the country which is devoid of mistakes. After two years of being sworn in as president, he is still taking his time to make decisions for the country.

Mr. President i seek to disagree with you on this note, the reason being that that is an absolute dsiplay of incompetency, lack of sense of direction and inablity to rule and govern. As a matter of fact, such statement is an insult to all Nigerians, the status of Nigeria as a giant of Africa and what the country represent in the eyes of the international hemisphere, such a statement can only emanate from a failure and Nigeria as a country do not need a failure at this critical time.

This statement from the president mandate me to ask whether the president has all the time in the world to think before he can make prompt decisions and act on them, or whether he is going to rule the country for his entire life? as such he needs more time to do more of thinking than acting on National issues, considering that so much is expected of him withing a short period of 4 years he will spend in office.

Mr. President sir, no Govenrment in the whole world makes decisions that are devoid of human errors either at policy formation or implementation, we learn from our mistakes, the earlier you understand that you are not fit and proper to govern this country the better for you. With no regret or apology i regard you as a chameleon and even the slowest of the chameleons. Nigeria need a Lion to govern her not a Chameleon please.

The standard of living of the citizens is deteriorating, the prizes of goods in the market have skyrocketed, abject poverty is the order of the day, the moral standard and values of a sane society is decaying, unemployment is the order of the day and the rate of criminal activity is taking place every minute of the day, Nigeria is becoming the animal kingdom and soon we will start observing the animal food chain, yet the president is taking his time to make decisions not to make mistakes, maybe he thinks we are the animals he studied during his zoology thesis.

The Fundamental Human Rights of the citizen are being violated and abused, extra-judicial killings is now the order of the day by the security forces whose main duty is to protect and safe guard the lives and properties of Nigerians (i.e. the army by its JTF, SSS, & Police) yet the president is still taking his time to make decisions not to make mistakes, is it when we have all been killed that the president will wake up from his slumber?

Mr. President has succeeded in ridiculing this great country in the eyes of the international world, Nigeria did not emerge the giant of Africa by making slow decisions, it was achieved by prompt and active decision makers, men of honour with great ability and sense of direction to rule and govern, mr. President, if you are still sleeping or dreaming from the effect of the ogogoro hang over in your system, its high time you wake up because the country is crumbling.

My fellow Nigerians how long are we going to suffer from the misery and incompetence of a president who lacks sense of direction and ability to make apt and prompt decision and implement same which affects the lives of all Nigerians.

Do we need a chameleon at this critical time where national issues are at stake? Is this the Nigeria our fore fathers sacrificed and laboured for? Is this the Nigeria we want our children and grand children to live in? The emergence of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as a president is the greatest tragedy that has ever befallen our great country Nigeria, the time to act is now, or we forever remain doomed.
