Toure ready for Nigerian debut
Abia Warriors’ Ivorian import, Idris Toure, is set to make his debut in the Glo Premier League when the 2013/14 season begins.
Toure, who had a stint with Romanian side Cluj Napoca, entered the club’s folklore with Beninoise striker Kwassie Judicael as the first set of foreigners to play in the top flight.
Interestingly, Toure becomes the fourth Ivorian to play in Nigeria’s top flight after the Dolphins trio of Bassole Maurice, Alhassan Dosso and Toure Mamadou, who arrived back in 2005.
However, Maurice and Mamadou couldn’t adapt, but Dosso made an impact before heading for Europe.
“I’m excited with the chance to play in the Nigerian league because it’s good and strong.
“Abia Warriors is equally a good team,” Toure told supersport.com.
Toure started his football development at Djekanou-based Academie de Foot Amadou Diallo, fondly called AFAD.
Umuahia fans will taste top flight action for the first time when Abia Warriors host Kaduna United.
