SSANU, Osun State University, Osogbo branch that its Governing Council has
failed to improve the welfare of the workers of the university, the Non-Academic
Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, has scored the
Governing council high.
In a statement issued yesterday and signed by the Chairman and Secretary of
NASU, Comrade Isaiah Fayemi and Comrade Olugbeja Suleman respectively, the
union faulted the claim by SSANU which was published in a national daily that
the Governing Council has neglected the welfare of workers in the institution,
hence SSANU’s one-week warning strike.
According to NASU, the governing council of the university under the leadership
of Prof Gabriel Olawoyin has not failed in its commitment towards the welfare of
members of staff of the institution.
The statement reads: “It has been brought to the knowledge of NASU, UNIOSUN
the insinuation making the rounds as regards the commitment of the Governing
Council towards the welfare of members of staff of Osun State University. We
want to say that the present Governing Council has improved on the welfare of
workers unlike what obtained before its inception”.
Enumerating the achievements of the Governing Council, the statement noted
that 50 drivers that were in contract appointment have been placed on
permanent appointment, adding that junior staff promotion that was done every
four years is now three years.
NASU thus commended the Governing Council for its commitment to the welfare
of workers, urging SSANU to refrain from making unwarranted accusations
against the authority.
