Oromo students of Addis Ababa University on Thursday May 1 held a demonstration against government measures to annex Oromia lands into the capital. The students, who were blocked by police from taking to the streets of Addis Ababa, were forced to stage their protest on Sidis Killo Campus. The students also condemned government killings of Oromo protesters in Ambo and other towns. Official records say at least 17 were killed during clashes with security forces in the past week. Others contend as many as 30 were killed and many more others injured.
