Why I killed leader of Yoruba community in Kano – Suspect
The suspect behind the assassination of late Chief Ganiyu Akambi Bello, the grand patron of the Yoruba community in Kano State, has confessed that his mission to the home of the deceased on the night of June 5, 2014 was not to assassinate him, but to steal his money.
Abubakar Abdulrahaman, 26, made the confession at the Bompai headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Kano, where he was paraded before journalists.
The suspect, who was arrested at about 10 p.m. on August 25, 2014, at his residence at Badawa Quarters, Kano, by police detectives, expressed regret over the murder.

Abdulrahaman, who was sacked years ago from the company of the deceased for stealing, admitted that he stabbed his former boss with a knife.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba explained that when the suspect arrived, he had expected that the deceased would have gone to bed on that day and at that time, but added that, “unfortunately the man had not.”
“He (the suspects) scaled the fence into the premises and found the door ajar. And he entered. And when he discovered that the man was still awake, and realizing that at that point if he runs away, his identity was already known, because he was his former employee, so he had no option but to kill him.”
Shinaba further said, “He felt that since the cat had been let out of the bag, the best thing was to do away with the man.”
The CP added that during interrogation, the suspect maintained that he had no other motive, beside the intention to go to the residence and steal some money.
