Why We’re Building Mega Education Centres, by Ekiti Deputy Governor
Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof Modupe Adelabu has explained why the state government built ultra-modern Early Childhood Development.
Education Centers (ECDEC) in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti, headquarters of the Central, South and North Senatorial Districts. The motive was to introduce education to infants in the best of environment and demystify the notion that state-of-the-art schools are the exclusive preserve of the privileged in the society.
She spoke at a stakeholder’s parley after inspecting the ECDEC in Ikole-Ekiti. The deputy governor, who doubles as the chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) said the facility had attained 95 per cent completion. Urging parents to take ownership of the facilities, Mrs. Adelabu said their established by the administration of Governor Kayode was to enable every child irrespective of their parental status derive
maximum benefits from Education & Human Capital Development, which is the fourth on the Eight-Point Agenda- the present administration’s Roadmap to Ekiti Recovery.
According to the SUBEB chair, the Ikere and Ikole centres are to be furnished with modern facilities preparatory to their inauguration by the governor next month. The Mega ECDEC in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, took off last year while those in Ikere and Ikole will take-off at the beginning of academic session in September.
“The government put these centres in place to ensure that Ekiti remain in the frontline of education in this country and even beyond by exposing the children to quality education early in life, however, parents and other stakeholders have to play their roles if this goal
would be achieved,” she added. She encouraged parents to enroll their children and wards before the beginning of the new academic session in September.
Mr. Adelabu also charged the contractor handling the project in Ikole-Ekiti to expedite action to complete and deliver the project as scheduled. Mr Yomi Amos, who is the site engineer, explained that the work is at the finishing stage, promised that the project will be completed to specification.
