Yoruba Movie Awards holds Sunday in Ibadan

The Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA), which has been dubbed the biggest and most glamorous event in the Yoruba movie industry, will hold tomorrow at the Civic Centre, Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The award ceremony, according to the organisers, will kick-off with a creative Yoruba red carpet at 5.00pm, while the main event will commence at 7.00pm.

It will parade 16 major categories and six honourary awards. Led by veteran movie director, producer, critic and culture enthusiast, Muritala Sule, the five-man jury panel of YMAA consists of professionals of very high integrity.

A major highlight of the event will be the conferment of the honourary award of ‘Agba Sa Ga’ and ‘Yeye Agba Sa Ga’ on the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and his wife, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi for their “immense and unquantifiable contributions to the development of culture, tourism and the Yoruba movie industry in line with the development agenda for Western Nigeria.”

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, High Chief Edem Duke, is expected to present a paper entitled: “The Role of Nollywood and the Yoruba Movie Industry in Nation Building”. Commissioners for Culture and Tourism from all the South West states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun, are expected to grace the event. Besides, top showbiz stars and distinguished personalities are expected at the event.

According to Tunde Osinibosi, a.k.a. Laface, president and executive producer of the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards, all nominees are expected to arrive at the exquisite poolside terrace of Asake Suites Davis Hotel, Bodija at 4.00pm, from where they will be chauffeured in a Limousine to the Ibadan Civic Centre, where a major cultural reception awaits them as they arrive on the red carpet.

On his part, Alhaji Teju Kareem, YMAA’s Technical Director and CEO, Zmirage Multimedia, a foremost lighting, stage and sound company in Nigeria, has promised that guests will be treated to the lavish creativity in set design, professional lighting and quality sound ensemble.
