UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has been arrested and charged with treason, an offence that carries a death penalty in Zambian law.

Mr. Hichilema was arrested this morning when he appeared at Police headqauters for questioning.

The UPND leader is currently detained at Woodlands police station since the treason charge is not bailable.

With the compromised judiciary and DPP Mutembo Nchito, the leading opposition leader is likely to be killed.

There are also fears that the vocal opposition leader maybe poisoned in police detention.

The treason charge for Mr. Hichilema arises from the statement he made over PF wanting to train militias in war torn Sudan.

Early this year, PF secretary General, Wynter Kabimba, announced that the PF had signed a memorandum of understanding with Albashir’s Sudanese government to train PF youths in that country.

Part of training in Sudanese institutions involves mandatory military exercise for one year.
