Zambian woman arrested in Ethiopia for drug traficking

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has confirmed the arrest of a 31 year old Zambian businesswoman in Ethiopia for drug trafficking.

DEC public relations Manager John Nyawali ha named the woman as Izalo Kalenda. She was arrested at Addis Abba international airport on her way from Pakistan via Dubai to Zimbabwe.

According to Nyawali, Kalenda had swallowed heroin weighing over half a kilogram.

She is currently detained in that country awaiting trial.

Meanwhile, the Commission has arrested a 24 year old man of John Laing Township in Lusaka for trafficking in pure grade cocaine.

Joseph Mwamba, was found with 16 sachets of cocaine powder after conducting a search at his house.

Mwamba is believed to have been supplying cocaine to the neighbouring township of Chiboly, said Nyawali.

Others arrested in the last seven days are 94 people who were found trafficking in different quantities of cannabis weighing 428 kilograms.

Among them are two Somali nationals resident in Ndola who were found with 34 bundles of Mirra weighing over 12 kilograms.
